The International Baccalaureate and Free to Flourish frameworks promote the important attribute of being caring. At Good News Lutheran College, we don’t just want our students to have a good understanding of the curriculum, we want them to be young people who care for others, their families, the environment and even have compassion for those they don’t know who may be suffering. Teachers actively promote this by modelling care and explaining why it is important. I want to highlight some students in Year 2 that really care for the College environment and have created a Planet Carers Club who pick up rubbish around the yard. They have done this because they care! Praising and thanking our children for being caring is a powerful way to build their confidence and self-esteem.

We are delighted to celebrate the success of this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge. More than 150 students from Prep to Year 6 met the challenge, showing an incredible commitment to reading.
A special acknowledgement goes to the students who not only read a huge number of books but also engaged deeply in the challenge portal. Their detailed and thoughtful book reviews showed a genuine love of stories and helped inspire others with new reading ideas.
Well done to our Premiers' Reading Challenge Champions; Harvey W Prep B, Jasmine G 1D, Emilia B 2B, Anaya 3C, Abeer Thakur 4D, Venisha 5C, Aarav A 6D and Spruha 6B, who were proudly awarded a Premiers’ Reading Challenge Champion pin during assembly this week
This wonderful achievement reflects the enthusiasm, dedication, and creativity of our learners. Congratulations to all who participated—you have truly shown that reading opens doors to imagination, knowledge and joy.

We warmly invite families to join us for the Year 6 PYP Exhibition on Tuesday, 16 September, from 5.30pm–7.30pm in the Year 6 classrooms.
The Exhibition is the culminating project of the Primary Years Programme and a true celebration of student learning. Our Year 6 learners have been inquiring into the central idea: “The arts and media can empower and inspire action.” Through research, creativity, and collaboration, they have explored global issues that matter to them and developed possible solutions to share with our community.
It will be an honour for our students to present their projects, and we look forward to welcoming you to this special celebration of learning.

On Monday, 2 September, 32 of our Year 5 and 6 students from Tarneit and Mambourin campuses were fortunate to attend a special Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia activation at Government House called Games on the Green. Our school was one of only two schools invited to this unique event.
The day began with an address from the Governor before students had the amazing opportunity to play cricket on the Western Lawn of Government House. Students also received special giveaways to remember the occasion.
A highlight of the day was meeting Australian cricketers Todd Murphy and Sophie Molineux, who not only signed items for the students but also joined in for a bat and a bowl. Another memorable moment came when students had the chance to bowl to Mrs McAuliffe, something they’ll never forget of course!
It was a wonderful day full of fun, learning, and special experiences that our students will cherish.
