Assistant Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
As Term 3 draws to a close, we reflect on the amazing growth, creativity, and enthusiasm of our students. Our students have explored what it is like to be an archaeologist, investigating how history shapes they we ‘Learn. Create. Inspire.’ today! We look forward to our students presenting their learning with their peers and families through cross level activities and expos.
The school has been a buzz with the tunes of ‘Rip, Rip Woodchip’, ‘Big Yellow Taxi’, ‘Animals’, ‘The Three Rs’, ‘Mercy, Mercy Me’ and the ‘Recycle Rap’. These songs have travelled far and wide within our school, inspiring singalongs wherever they’ve been heard, even at Breakfast Club! The countdown is on for our biennial production ‘The Legend of the BEPS (Best) Chicken’, at Crossways on Tuesday 14th of October. Ensure you have your tickets purchased.
Parents Association Events
We hope all our BEPS dads, grandads, or special persons had a wonderful day celebrating Father’s Day. We had a fantastic response to the Father’s Day Stall, with the students excited to purchase a special gift or two. Many thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers, as without their assistance this event would not be possible. A BIG shout out to Sandra (PA president), Sylvie, Dina, Mela, Jani, Cynthia, Persephone, Fiona and Pushpa.
Last week our Parents Association organised a delicious meal deal from Baker’s Delight. We had an abundance of finger buns, mini custard scrolls and tasty savoury rolls to pack and deliver to approximately 230 students. Thank you to all the families who supported this event. Again, we are so fortunate to have amazing support from our parent helpers. Thank you to Elanie, Yuan Lam, Persephone and Edwina for their amazing coordination of the preparation and delivery of the meal deals. Superstars!
SunSmart
As Spring continues to bring brighter and warmer days, it’s important that all students wear a SunSmart hat during outdoor activities, this includes Physical Education. If your child does not have their hat, they will be asked to play in the shade. Please ensure your child’s hat is labelled.
* A SunSmart hat is a wide-brimmed or bucket hat.
Camp
This week the Year 5s headed off to Alexandra Adventure Resort. School Camp is a great opportunity for our students to learn new skills, grow friendships and further develop their independence. The weather was perfect, and our students demonstrated our school values when participating in the camp activities and interacting with each other, teachers and the camp staff. It was amazing to see our students work through challenges, step out of their comfort zone, and celebrate their personal goals with the numerous activities on offer at the camp.
Much planning, preparation and consideration goes into organising a school camp. I would like the acknowledge and thank Ben (Yr 5 PLC leader) and his team Ken, Jasmine and Meejoo, Leading Teacher Daniel and parents Willie, Dianna, Joyce, Deepika and Varun who gave generously of their time to attend the camp. Without their support, this camp would not have been the success that it was.
Our Year 4 students are excited to attend Coonawarra Farm Resort on Monday, experiencing an adventure filled three days, amongst a picturesque scenery. We can’t wait for them to share their most memorable moments with us.
Professional Learning
This term our staff have continued to engage in rich professional learning focused on the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM 2.0) and the updated Victorian Curriculum 2.0. Our Learning Specialists (LS) and Leading Teachers (LT) drive these sessions, upskilling staff in evidence based best practices. Our LS and LTs also attend regular Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) with each year level, with a focus on student learning data and effective curriculum planning. This term we have engaged with the region’s Education Improvement Leaders to strengthen our knowledge of the new Maths 2.0 curriculum. We had a specific focus on sequencing learning to support the conceptual understanding of fractions. This PL session aligned to one of our key Annual Implementation Plan’s goal of optimising the learning growth of every student in numeracy. This ongoing work reflects our commitment to evidence-based practice and inclusive, high-impact teaching.
We wish all families a safe and fun-filled school holidays. Please remember that school finishes at 2:30pm on Friday September 19, following our Principal Learning Awards assembly.
Take care,
Teri and Edwina
