Performing Arts

Foundation

In Term 3, Foundation students have been experiencing music and dance through play and imagination. They have been exploring different sounds and movements, including changing the speed, direction, and size of their movements to express how they feel. Students have also been singing and playing instruments to create sounds and make music on the ukulele. 

Years 1 & 2

Students in Years 1 and 2 have been exploring movement and sound through dance and music. They have been developing awareness and control of their bodies while exploring dance and playing various instruments. Students have been learning to move safely with control, creating and rehearsing simple movements and dances. They have been experimenting with musical changes in pitch, volume, and speed while rehearsing and performing ukulele with their peers.

Years 3 & 4 

Students in Years 3 and 4 have been exploring the physical skills and elements of dance to develop various movements and dances. They have been learning about the importance of safe dance practices and applying them while dancing. The elements of dance: body, time, space and energy, and how they can be used to communicate ideas. Students have been developing control and awareness of their bodies to collaboratively create dances. Additionally, they have continued learning about the elements of music and how they can improve their ukulele playing, focusing on technique, including pitch, timing and rhythms to improve their sound.

Years 5 & 6 

In Years 5 and 6 students have been experimenting with music and dance to create, express and communicate ideas. They have been learning about the elements of dance, and using them to collaboratively choreograph movement sequences and dances. Students have been exploring using ideas to inspire choreography while developing control, coordination and awareness of their bodies to dance safely. They have continued developing their understanding of the elements of music, rehearsing and refining their work for performance. Students have been performing to audiences of their peers, giving and receiving feedback constructively to develop and improve their practice.
