Year 4 - Numeracy

Year 4 Maths Adventures: Fractions, Statistics and Angles
This term, our Year 4 students have been exploring a variety of exciting maths topics, developing skills that will serve them well throughout their learning journey.
In fractions, students explored different ways to represent fractions visually and numerically. They practised identifying, comparing and ordering fractions, and gaining confidence in understanding parts of a whole. They also learnt how to add and subtract fractions with common and related denominators, strengthening their number sense and problem-solving abilities.
The classes took a hands-on approach to statistics by learning how to conduct a statistical experiment. They gathered data, created graphs, and analysed their findings to draw meaningful conclusions. As part of this process, students used digital tools like Google Sheets to organise and visualise their data, making learning both interactive and modern. They also explored different types of data and graphs, expanding their understanding of how information can be represented.
In the measurement unit, Year 4s discovered the fascinating world of angles by observing angles in nature. They learnt to compare and estimate angles using set squares before mastering the use of a protractor for accurate measurement. This practical work helped build their spatial awareness and precision in geometry.
To support their overall maths fluency, students continued engaging in maths games focused on multiplication and division facts, boosting their speed and accuracy in mental maths.
It has been a term full of curiosity, creativity and plenty of mathematical discoveries.
Well done, Year 4!
