Y2: Werribee Park Mansion Excursion

On Wednesday 3rd and Friday 5th of September, our curious Year 2 students embarked on a fascinating journey through history at the magnificent Werribee Mansion. What an adventure it was!
The mansion tour opened young eyes to wonders of the past - imagine their amazement discovering that this grand building has stood proudly for 146 years. Through engaging storytelling, our students learned about daily life in the mansion and marvelled at how different the world was before electricity and modern technology lit up our lives.
The highlight for many was exploring upstairs to the children's room, where delighted giggles filled the air as students discovered and played with authentic olden-day toys. It was beautiful watching them connect with history through play, their faces lighting up with the same joy children must have felt generations ago.
Our Washday tour in the historic laundry proved both educational and eye-opening. Students listened intently as their tour guide brought the past to life, explaining the challenging life of washladies.
Getting hands-on experience with traditional washing materials and tools helped our young learners truly appreciate how hard life was for the mansion's servants - a powerful lesson in gratitude and empathy.
The adventure continued as excited voices echoed through the farm buildings and gardens. Students explored the elegant glasshouse and peaceful lake, soaking in the beauty and tranquillity before our journey back to school.
What a wonderful excursion experience that blended learning with discovery, bringing history to life in the most engaging way!
