MAYOR VISIT
Last week Moyne Shire Mayor, Karen Foster attended Mortlake College with NextGen Development Officer Lee Malady to talk with school captains, Molly Goddard and Jack Fowler about current issues facing youth in Mortlake.
The Mayor spent half an hour chatting with the students, discussing their goals/aspirations, current youth issues and the barriers that rural students face, not just in regards to education but in life in general.
Lee also spoke to the students about the new youth-led grants that are coming up that young people can apply for to help break down some of these barriers and improve their quality of life in rural Victoria.
Both Molly and Jack had some great ideas, and we look forward to seeing what might come out of these grants.

There are a range of certificates available including Visual Arts, Early Childhood Education, Building, Baking, Business, Auto, Civil Construction, Community Services, Conservation, Electrical, Engineering, Ag, Cookery, Hair, Health, Horticulture, IT and Make-up just to name a few! 🔔 YEAR 12 VTAC REMINDER
Students wanting to apply for University or TAFE courses next year should set up their VTAC accounts, select their courses (and pay) and complete their SEAS/Scholarship applications by Friday 5th September. This isn’t the cut-off date, but it is the date if students want their SEAS submissions reviewed by VTAC and feedback given on whether any further information should be provided. This feedback is invaluable! Students then have until Monday 29th September to change the order of their courses, add new courses or delete existing courses. If students need any help with any part of the VTAC process, please see Liz.
📈 VICTORIAN SKILLS DATA
As part of your career conversations at home with your children, I encourage you to look up the Victorian Skills Authority website. https://app.powerbi.com/view?r=eyJrIjoiMzc5YjdkNWEtNWI2Yi00ZTA1LThiMWQtMzMwYjFlYWUwYzEwIiwidCI6IjcyMmVhMGJlLTNlMWMtNGIxMS1hZDZmLTk0MDFkNjg1NmUyNCJ9 In this website, you can filter by time period, region and industry to see what the projected amount of jobs are going to be. For example, in the below, I’ve selected the next 3 years in this region (the Great South Coast) and ordered by highest number of new workers required. This is great way to see what the jobs in demand are so students can make informed career choices.
