Grade 1

English

In English, the students have begun a new knowledge rich unit, 'Fairytales.' As part of this unit, the students have been exploring stories such as, 'Sleeping Beauty', 'Rapunzel' and 'Hansel and Gretel.'

In Writing, the students have been learning to develop the four sentence types, statements, commands, questions and exclamations. They have also been completing sentences when provided with a 'but,' 'because' or 'so' sentence stem.

Mathematics 

Students have been learning about probability and creating and continuing patterns with more than two repeating elements. As part of this, students have enjoyed playing 'Pattern races.'

Creative Connections

During Creative Connections we have been building on the students' knowledge of Animals and Habitats from their knowledge rich unit, and the students have been creating dioramas that included shelter, food and water for their animals.
