MAV Game Day- Year 7 & Year 8

On the 18 August, four of our Year 7 students attended a Mathematics Games Day at Tintern Grammar.  The aim of the day was for Year 7 students to engage in problem solving activities and puzzles to stretch their cognitive abilities, meet like-minded students from other schools and enjoy the fun-filled atmosphere that permeated the hall throughout the day.

Giulia Bernnardo, Leilani Davies, Halle Hitch and Samantha Keogh represented the Academy of Mary Immaculate on the day and did an outstanding job, working together as a team solving the array of difficult and engaging problems dished up by the Mathematics Association of Victoria.

Our students also had the opportunity to meet students from other schools whilst rotating seats and solving problems in a musical chairs fashion.   Congratulations to the girls for the outstanding way in which they represented the school with pride and enthusiasm.

Four of our Year 8 students participated in the Year 8 Maths Games Day at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School on 20 August.

It is fantastic to see them tackling a wide range of challenging problems with enthusiasm, collaborating effectively as a team and demonstrating persistence in their problem-solving.

It is great to see that they are not only enjoying the experience, but also pushing themselves outside their comfort zone, developing their critical thinking skills and celebrating the fun and creativity that mathematics has to offer.

Congratulations to  Emma Hutchison, Chloe Li, Audrey Nguyen and Kim Trac for representing our school so proudly and achieving an impressive sixth place in the competition.

Mary MacKillop’s Story

As part of their Religious Education studies on the lives of saints, our Year 8 students visited the Mary MacKillop Spirituality Centre to learn more about the life and work of Australia’s first and only saint, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

During their time at the centre, students explored Mary’s story of courage, faith and service, discovering how she responded to the needs of her time with compassion and resilience.  They learned about her dedication to education, her founding of the Sisters of St Joseph and her commitment to helping those most in need.

This experience not only brought their classroom learning to life, but also encouraged students to reflect on the relevance of Mary’s values today, inspiring them to consider how they, too, can live lives of faith, service and hope.
