Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
Welcome to another exciting week at our school! As we end Week 5, there have been several significant events and opportunities taking place that I wanted to share and highlight.
Blue Mountains Grammar School Year 7 Camp took place last week. A week of abseiling, rock climbing, canyoning, canoeing and hiking has created a lifetime of stories. More importantly, friendships have been forged, new courage discovered and a deeper understanding of the value of going to school in a World Heritage-Listed location.
Congratulations to Sophia, Elizabeth, Eliza, Nisha and Audrey who finished 4th in the International Ethics Olympiad Finals! Our fantastic team competed online, over several hours, against 44 teams from 7 different countries, narrowly missing out on the Bronze medal. Our thanks to our wonderful Chaplain, Mr Luke Webb, for guiding and mentoring the team throughout their preparations and his calm support on the day of the competition. Congratulations, everyone!
On Tuesdays, the Year 12 students take part in the HSC and Beyond session. This session takes place once a fortnight and we have guest speakers who talk to our students about post school opportunities. This time, representatives from Charles Sturt University came to speak to us about all of the opportunities they have on offer.
During our two Senior School Open Mornings (held last Thursday and last Saturday) we were delighted to welcome more than 100 guests, to listen to our Principal, Mr Coote, our Deputy Principal, Mr Laffin, Mr Chris Sanders, our Director of Innovative Pedagogy and myself present on such topics as our brand new Year 7 Odyssey Program, our initiatives through the Future Schools Alliance, the academic success in the HSC and the extensive co-curricular offerings available at BMGS. We thank our marvellous School and Vice Captains, who gave of their time to speak to each audience and conduct tours of the School - thank you also to our Year 10 volunteers who backed up from winning their Basketball match to assist with tours.
Our F1 in Schools team - Xpeditious - are off to the Nationals in Adelaide in Week 7. On Tuesday, 27th February we held a Mufti Day in which staff and students dressed in their favourite sports team colours or jerseys. We also had a cake stall in the new John Cunningham Student Centre kitchen.
Looking ahead to Week 6, I'm excited to announce that our Year 9 students will be embarking on a memorable outdoor adventure as they head out on camp. This experience is not only an opportunity for personal growth and development but also a chance for students to forge lasting friendships and create unforgettable memories.
As always, I encourage all students to make the most of these upcoming events and opportunities. Your participation and engagement play a vital role in creating a vibrant and supportive school community.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
