Smile Squad returns for Fluro treatments

The EACH Smile Squad team are heading back to our school to complete six-monthly fluoride varnish applications for those students who have provided consent. Fluoride varnish applications help make sure students have the best chance of preventing tooth decay, so we’re excited Smile Squad are coming back.

Consent for this fluoride varnish application was provided when students’ initial consent forms were returned. However, if anyone has changed their mind and do not wish to receive a fluoride varnish application, you can contact EACH directly to let them know.

Please contact the Smile Squad team via:

Lots of socks day

Lots of Socks Day

The Kalinda Junior School Council has chosen to support World Down Syndrome Day with a 'Lots of Socks Day'. We are raising awareness of Down Syndrome and celebrating the individual – each person with Down Syndrome is their own unique person, just like the rest of us and just like the variety of socks in the world!

On Monday 25th March we will hold our own Lots of Socks DayStudents are invited to wear their favourite, unique pair of socks with their school uniform on this day.

Classes will take some time to talk about “looking to see the individual, not just a label” and celebrate our unique interests and personalities.

Why Lots of Socks? (From: downsyndrome.org.au)

Down Syndrome is a genetic condition that occurs randomly in individuals and means someone has a third copy of their 21st chromosome. This is why World Down Syndrome Day takes place on the 21st of March each year. And when put under a microscope, chromosomes resemble socks which is why socks are our symbolic representation for Down syndrome!

The aim of the Lots of Socks campaign is to raise awareness of Down syndrome amongst students, staff and the community. The idea behind the ‘Lots of Socks’ initiative is that socks come in all shapes, sizes and designs, just like each of us.

Request for host families

This year we will be welcoming an intern from Japan to support our Japanese language program. Megumi Ikishima will be at Kalinda for Term 2 and Term 4 (she will be overseas during Term 3). We are looking for host families who would be willing to host Megumi whilst she is here at Kalinda. Megumi is a qualified teacher from Tokyo, Japan, and has been teaching English for the past 8 years. Hosting our intern is an amazing opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture and to teach Megumi about life here in Australia. We are looking for host families for a short or long term period.

If you're interested in hosting Megumi, or would like to find out more information about hosting, then please contact our Japanese Intern coordinator, Ms Jess White at Jessica.white@education.vic.gov.au

Works around Kalinda during the school holidays

We will have some playground equipment repairs during the school holidays - please be aware that areas may be closed, or workmen will be around. Please do not let children near any machinery, and follow any signage or instructions.

The stadium facia and the shade sails over the BBQ outside the stadium, will be power washed from Friday the 13th until Sunday the 14th of April. We ask families to stay away from these areas.

The basketball court maintenance will occur on Monday the 15th of April  ( Student Free Day ) The courts will be out of bounds whilst this occurs.

We are so lucky to have wonderful grounds at Kalinda Primary School, and ask that all families support us in maintaining them. During the school break, and after school we ask that visitors take any rubbish home with you, as bins are not out.

If you bring a dog, please obey the local by-laws and pick up any dog poo.

Any suspicious or unwanted activities such as vandals should be reported to Ringwood Police on 9871 3000 if safe to do so.
