Japanese News

I am very pleased to say all grades have made a wonderful start in Japanese.

It has been a pleasure to meet our lovely new Foundation students. They have been learning about Japan and some Japanese words. This included learning some new words, like Konnichiwa – hello, and Sensei – teacher. They also completed some map work, made an origami Neko – cat and can sing some Japanese songs.

Students in 1/2 have been learning the body parts of a dragon. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon. These words include;

TeethhaStomachonaka
TailshipoWingstsubasa
Head atamaEyesme
HornstsunoFeetashi

I am also very pleased to announce the Japanese leaders for each 1/2 class. The leaders were chosen because they show our school values, come to class ready to learn and are willing to assist other students with their learning.

Congratulations to the following students;

1/2L Poppy, Felix, Cruz and Flynn

1/2G Piper, Joe, Duke and Milla

1/2E Rafael, Lilly, Lexi and Caleb

1/2M Charlie, George, Phoebe and Neviah

1/2W Jack, Rori, Banjo and Piper

I have loved the enthusiasm of the grade 3/4’s when learning the hiragana alphabet. Last week the focus was on learning the K group. Students made a hiragana chart to take home to practice. This week we started learning the S group.

Sa       Shi         Su す   Seせ             So

The grade 5/6’s are learning the days of the week, months, celebrations and festivals for each month and compiling all this information to make a calendar.
