Year 2

Ms Kay, Ms Hajnal, Ms Rodwell, Ms Bandal, Ms McInerney, Ms Bowman, Ms Huntly & Ms Martin

Welcome back families! The Year 2’s have been working hard the last few weeks and are so excited to share our learning with you all.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have begun revising our Stage 1-6 Little Learners Love Literacy phonemes and graphemes. The students have been completing tasks including Let’s Spell, Let’s Write and Read, Write and Draw to develop their understanding of how sounds correspond to different letters or letter combinations.

We have also been expanding our understanding of what a simple sentence is and how we can expand them using when and where details.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we have started to look at place value, 2D shapes and using calendars. We have been dazzling our teachers with our understanding of partitioning (breaking larger numbers into smaller values using a digits place value) and have been able to identify and group 2D shapes using their features. We are gaining confidence with identifying dates and reading a calendar which we have also been practising daily with our classroom teacher.

SEL & Auslan

In SEL, we have been learning about our school values and discussing what they look like both in and outside of the classroom. In a few weeks, we will be starting The Resilience Project! To help us ease into this program, we have begun to look at different GEM (Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness + Emotional Literacy) Chat prompts. Take a look at a few below!

Please keep an eye out on Compass for information on The Resilience Project in the coming weeks.

We have also started Auslan! We have eagerly been learning how to sign the alphabet and have been practising by finger spelling our names. In the next few weeks we will be learning how to sign different colours. We are so excited to be incorporating what we learn in Auslan into our everyday learning.
