February Year 1 Newsletter

Welcome back families! We have had a wonderful start to the year and the Year 1 students have settled back into school routines beautifully! We are so excited to share our learning with you all.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have begun revising our Stage 1-4 Little Learners Love Literacy phonemes and graphemes. The students have been completing tasks including Let’s Spell, Let’s Write and Read and Draw to develop their understanding of how sounds correspond to different letters or letter combinations.

We have also been learning about simple sentences including a noun and verb, for example ‘The girl is dancing.’

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we have started to look at place value, 2D shapes and using calendars. We have been practising counting to 20, representing numbers to 20 and learning that 10 ones makes 1 ten. We have been using this knowledge to identify how many tens and ones are in teen numbers. For example, 17 is 1 ten and 7 ones.

SEL

In SEL, we have been learning about our school values and discussing what they look like both in and outside of the classroom. Next week we will be using The Resilience Project (TRP) as the foundation of our SEL lesson each week. We will be learning about different life skills to help us cope with our emotions and when things don’t go our way, such as gratitude, mindfulness and emotional literacy.
