Welcome back, everyone! We’re super excited to see parents and students back! There are three of us who will be teaching Science across the whole school this year:
This term students will be exploring the Earth and Space branch of science.
Foundations
Seasons: Students will watch a range of videos and songs, discuss and draw their learning about what happens in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Observable changes in the landscape and the sky such as weather were key prompts to help students display their learning.
Year 1
Seasons: Building on their learning in Foundation, Year 1 students will compare different seasons, including the activities completed and clothes worn in each season. Students will be challenged to explore various fabrics and how its choice for clothes impact seasonal activities..
Year 2
Earth’s resources: Students will identify the variety of natural resources found on Earth and how they support our daily lives and survival. These include resources from plants, animals, below the ground. Students will also begin to complete their own research with peers and record their discoveries.
Year 3
Impacts of Earth’s rotation: The Year 3 students will be exploring the impacts of the moon and Earth’s rotation around the Sun. These impacts include day and night, ocean currents, tidal waves and seasons. Students will also learn the impacts of the rotation and revolution and the tilt of the Earth affects their daily lives.
Year 4
Weathering, erosion and deposition: The students will be learning about weathering, erosion and deposition in term 1. These are the natural processes that shape the Earth and create various landforms. Students will be exploring the types, causes and effects that these processes have on the Earth surface and in turn on human lives.
Year 5
The Solar system: The students of Year 5 will be learning about the Solar system this term. In addition to the planets and their unique properties, students will also learn about other objects that are a part of the solar system like asteroids, satellites and comets in the upcoming weeks.
Year 6
Natural Disasters: The Year 6 cohort is learning about natural disasters this term. The students will be exploring disasters that affect Australia like bushfires, cyclones and pandemics. The students will also discuss the causes, impacts and survival tips to tackle these disasters in the following weeks.
