Attending to our Marine Ecology

The latest University of Tasmania Alumni Magazine (edition 54) carried an article on Associate Professor Scott Ling Scott (SVC 1990 - 94). The article by Katherine Johnson focused on Scott’s work and his push to encourage a new generation of marine scientists to base themselves in the state, which is a hotspot of global warming.

After completing a Bachelor of Science, Scott did his honours and PhD in Marine Ecology at the University. He is now Associate Professor and Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow in Marine Ecology at the University of Tasmania’s Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS). His research focuses on how and why productive reef ecosystems collapse into impoverished systems that can be difficult to reverse.

To quote Scott;

We need to build resilience of these systems to further changes. Once the ecosystems collapse, they are very hard to recover.
