Vale: Wayne Fooks

03.10.1945 - 10.12.2023 (SVC 1955-1964)

Wayne Fooks passed in December at the age of 78.  He attended St Columba’s School prior to commencing at St Virgil’s in 1955. It was at St Virgil’s that ‘the foundations of his character and his passion for sport began to flourish’.

 

Wayne was an outstanding footballer and played in 1st XVIII teams for four yearshe won the best & fairest in 1962 and was runner up in 1963.  On leaving school he became an integral part of the Glenorchy senior team and was a member of its 1965 premiership team.

 

As for his career, Wayne became an Accountant and was for a time the Auditor for Tasmania Police.  He then ventured out on his own and had news agencies at Campbell Town and Lutana. He then had a coffee shop in Moonah and his final career venture was as General Manager of the Glenorchy Football Club.

 

Following his football days, he turned his attention to motor boats which enabled him to pursue an interest in water skiing and fishing. He also become something of a ‘fun run junkie’.

 

He is survived by his wife, Lyn, four children – Damian, Mellisa, Anna and Nicholas (svc 91-94) – and 9 grandchildren.
