E-Bike Beneficiar

The 12 January edition of The Mercury carried a story about E-bikes are being snapped up at a rate of knots across the state as Tasmanians take advantage of a new rebate scheme enabling them to save hundreds of dollars on personal mobility devices.

The state government’s $200,000 e-Mobility Rebate program offers a 12 percent rebate on local purchases of micromobility vehicles.

Rebates of up to $250 are available for e-scooters and e-skateboards, up to $500 for e-bikes, and up to $1000 for cargo e-bikes.

Two former students ‘riding the boom’ are Ken Self Cycle Centre owner Chris Riley (svc 1980-85) and Wayne Chapman (svc1969-77) the owner manager of M Ride.

Chris started at Ken Self’s upon leaving school and eventually took over the business. He was a very good footballer and played with Glenorchy for many years.

By contrast, Wayne did not enter the cycling business until much later in his life. He became a qualified Chartered Accountant and was with Gunns Ltd from 1997-2012 where he was Company Secretary.  With the demise of Gunns, Wayne moved back to Hobart from Launceston and established My Ride.
