Principal's Report

Welcome to this edition of our college newsletter.

Our college stands strong on providing quality education in a community where student growth is nurtured, and aspirations are ignited.

In the time since our last newsletter, a plethora of positive activities have enriched our academic program. From invigorating camps and engaging lunchtime activities to informative evenings and collaborative inter-school sports, our students have been immersed in a diverse array of experiences. The Challenge and Respectful Relationships program, KIOSC STEM excursions, Blue Edge program, career sessions, and more have contributed to our vibrant and dynamic learning environment.

Student Voice Agency and Leadership

Student voice, agency and leadership involves empowering students to actively participate in decision making processes within the college. It is heartening to see the student leadership opportunities provided within and beyond our college. These opportunities are essential for the development of our next generation of leaders and integral to fostering a culture where all students can realise their potential.

 Family Engagement

Thank you to families who participated in the recent information evenings. Whilst the numbers of participants was not as high as we would have expected, those who did attend gained valuable insights into the upcoming school year. Each year starts a new journey for students and family attendance at information nights signals to students that they are valued and important because their parents are taking an interest in their education and their future. Many students whose parents are involved in school, perform better at school, have greater trust in the school, settle better into school programs and develop positive social skills by watching parents and school staff interact respectfully. Each information evening was specific to each year level with the Year 8 and 9 evening focused on a presentation on building resilience from social worker, lecturer and positive psychology expert Chris Daicos.

International Women’s Day

This week we reflected on International Women's Day, it's heartening to see the leadership opportunities provided for our students. Empowering the next generation of leaders is integral to our mission, fostering a culture where all students can realize their potential.

Looking Forward

As we embark on the NAPLAN tests, it is a timely reminder that the evidence affirms our students' continuous recognition for high growth in literacy and numeracy skills. This success is a testament to our high-quality teaching approach in English and Mathematics, ensuring that both high achievers are extended and students below the level receive early intervention programs.

Open Day/Night

Looking ahead, we are excited about our upcoming Open Day on Tuesday, March 26. It will be an excellent opportunity for prospective students and their families to witness firsthand the unique and enriching educational environment Scoresby Secondary College offers. Normal classes operate in the morning with tours for prospective students, parents/carers commencing at 9:00 am and 11:30 am. Students will be dismissed at 1.00pm to prepare for the evening program. . The evening program commences at 5.30pm and concludes at 7.45pm with the principal’s address taking place at 6.30pm.  The evening session is an opportunity for parents/ carers who were not able to participate in tours during lockdown to visit classrooms.

I am immensely proud of the collaborative efforts that make Scoresby Secondary College a wonderful learning community as shown in the articles within this edition.
