Hello everyone, it’s hard to believe we are already at week 6 of Term 1.
EVERY DAY COUNTS - SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
Going to school every day is the single most important part of your teenager’s education. Students learn new things at school every day – missing school puts them behind.
OUR SCHOOL IS BETTER WHEN YOUR TEENAGER IS THERE
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day. Students develop good habits by going to school every day – habits that are necessary to succeed after school, whether in the workplace or in further study.
Missing school can have a big impact on students academically and socially. It can affect their test results, including VCE, VM-VCE and VPC. Just as importantly, it can affect their relationships with other students, and lead to social isolation. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.
Getting in early
It’s never too late to improve attendance. Even in the middle years, when school can seem the most challenging for students and when attendance rates can be at their lowest, going to school more often can make a big difference. Every day counts. We are here to help – if you’re having attendance issues with your child, speak to us and we’ll work with you to address those issues.
Did you know?
If your child is going to be absent from school or leaving please call the absence hotline on 5381 7172.
If you have an appointment or need to leave school for any reason you need to provide a note from home to the Admin office prior to leaving.
RUGBY JUMPERS NOW AVAILABLE
Please be advised that our new HC rubgy jumpers have arrived at LOWES Horsham and are fully stocked. This addition to the uniform was brought about by the student population, using their voice to enhance their uniform. We think they look great and it has been so pleasing to see the uptake from students.

Year 7 Camp
Last week over 90 of the Year 7 students attended their year level camp at Grampians Retreat in Dunkeld. Although the camp was shortened by a day due to Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating on the Wednesday, the students had a fantastic couple of days at Dunkeld. Special thankyou to Mrs. McKenry for organising such an excellent experience for our students. Thank you to all staff who volunteered their time and supported the students on camp.
A letter from our Koorie Engagement Support Officers - (KESO)
We are excited to be joining you and your child on their education journey as they start their schooling. We are Koorie Engagement Support Officers (KESO) and we work with the Department of Education. The role of the KESO is to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, their parents and carers, staff from schools and early childhood services to support Koorie education outcomes.
We know you have the most important role as parents and carers by being your child’s first teacher. We look forward to working with you, your child and their school - we want their learning experiences to set them up for life! Being able to attend the transition sessions and regularly attend school is an important step in preparing them for their future schooling.
We can support you and your child with advice on their schooling and needs such as meeting support, engagement, attendance and information updates.
Kind regards,
Shannon (7/8), Liam (9/10) and Louise (11/12) Assistant Principals.
