Year 9 News

Matthew Nield & David Arthur | Year 9 Coordinators

Congratulations to everyone on the start to what has been a very busy Term 1 already!

SRC for 2024

We would like to acknowledge our 2024 SRC representatives. These students have either put their hand up or have been nominated by their peers to be the voice of Year 9 this year. It will be their responsibility to hear feedback from their peers in form group on what we can do to make the college a better place to be. Well done to all involved.

Hats

As we are in Term 1 – this means that all students are required to be wearing their Horsham College school hat when they are outside at recess and lunch, as well as in their PE classes. If your child does not have a hat, a new hat can be purchased from Earles in Horsham.

Uniform Reminder

This is just a little reminder that as we are now moving into the cooler months. Please ensure that you are only wearing Horsham College uniform (no Kathmandu jackets or external beanies). We understand that you may want to wear a long sleeve shirt under your uniform and this is ok as long as it is white or navy, and not a hoodie.

The Year 9s have been pretty good with wearing the correct uniform so far, so please keep it up!

Phones

Just a reminder that phones and smart watches must remain in your locker at all times and not kept in your pocket.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN will be starting this Thursday 14th March. All students have been asked to please make sure they have a working device with the NAPLAN program installed, as well as headphones for this week and next week. If students don’t have either, then this equipment can be borrowed from the school.

Interim Reports

Teachers are currently completing student interim reports – Year 9 students please make sure you are doing all the right things in your classes and making sure you are catching up on completing any essential work for your classes. These reports will be released during Week 7.

Year 9 PE

Students went fishing this week as part of a 'recreation' unit in Physical Education classes. Students are contrasting recreational vs traditional sports activities and their health benefits.

With the local Horsham Fishing Competition kicking off this weekend it was the perfect opportunity to educate students on the benefits of fishing for peoples health, as well as the local economy.

They were lucky to be supported by Wimmera Catchment Management Authority and Fisheries Victoria personal, with Charlie and Abbie being the recipient of a lure for catching a fish!
