Community Engagement

Hello MITS Community! My name is Jye and I started in the role of Community Engagement Manager in Term 2 and it has been a huge learning experience for me. I am a teacher and spent 2023 on maternity leave.  I live in Darwin with my husband, 16 month old daughter and our pet rabbit and dog.

In Term 2 I had the pleasure of visiting many communities that our current students are from and home to prospective students in the future. It was great to meet the families and hear them all talk so highly of MITS and how much fun their kids are having in Melbourne.

One of the big discussions had with families was how are we going to celebrate this year's graduating class of Year 12 students? We have 13 Year 12s who will have completed their high school journey at the end of the year and it would be awesome to celebrate this achievement with their family and community who have helped them along the way. I am looking forward to planning these celebrations with our young people, their families and community.

In the last week of term, I met with our Year 12s to discuss what this would look like when they return home and have asked them to talk with their families over the holidays about their celebration!

As always, Term 3 will be a busy one with interviews for the Class of 2025 across the Northern Territory and Victoria. Ed, Lia, Brad and I will be joined by Emily and Jayden next term and are looking forward to meeting perspective students and families of our current cohort.

Don’t forget applications for 2025 are closing, put in an Expression of Interest on our website and I will give you a call to chat about the application process. I hope everyone has enjoyed the ‘winter’ holidays.
