OUR FAITH
PRAYER
Prayer of St. Dominic
May God the Father who made us bless us. May God the Son send his healing among us. May God the Holy Spirit move within us and give us eyes to see with, ears to hear with, and hands that your work might be done. May we walk and preach the word of God to all. May the angel of peace watch over us and lead us at last by God’s grace to the Kingdom. Amen
We pray ...
for..... the Confirmation candidates as they begin their preparation, and all the athletes as they continue to represent their country at the Olympic games.
LITURGY NEWS
Yesterday some of our Year 6 students had the opportunity to attend Reconciliation with Fr Saji. Next Wednesday more of our Year 6 students will have the opportunity to attend Reconciliation. We thank Fr Chris and Fr Saji for their time and spiritual guidance.
GRANDPARENTS DAY
What a wonderful day last Friday despite the weather. We were truly blessed to have so many members of our school community gathered together to help celebrate such significant people who play a major role in all our lives; our grandparents and grandfriends. A big thank you must go to our administration staff and our PT&F who served light refreshments for our grandparents. Grandparents Day is by far one of the biggest days on our school calendar but one we all very much treasure. Don’t forget to tell Nan and Pop ‘thanks’ and ‘I love you!’
FAMILY MASSES
Our Family Masses for this term will be held this Sunday 4th August and Sunday 22nd September (Yr 1 & Yr 5 families) at St Nicholas Church at 9.30a.m.
The First Family Mass (4th August) will be hosted by Kindergarten, Year 6 and Confirmation Candidates. It would be lovely to see as many families as possible attending.
These Masses are an opportunity for our School community to come together with our Parish Community to celebrate and to share a ‘cuppa ‘and morning tea afterwards.
ST DOMINIC FEAST DAY
St Dominic- Feast Day Saturday 3rd August
St Nicholas School has a rich history and association with the Dominican order and it is important that we acknowledge the work that has been carried out over the years by the order. Fittingly one of our school house teams is named after St Dominic. The Mottos of the Dominican Order are; VERITAS- TRUTH, TO PRAISE, TO BLESS, TO PREACH.
Dominic was born in 1170 in Caleruega, a village in the north of Spain. He began his University Studies at the age of 14, followed by studies for the Priesthood, being ordained a Priest at the age of 25. Dominic was a person of prayer, and lived a simple life without luxuries, and in the year 1216 he founded the Order of Preachers, - THE DOMINICANS. (Sisters, Brothers, Fathers). He insisted the Fathers study, before going out among the people to preach, and gradually they moved to other countries around the world.
Tomorrow those students in Dominic House can wear yellow mufti clothes. Enclosed shoes and hats are a must.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place the weekend of 7th/8th September. Parents of eligible candidates should have already received a Compass notification with all the relevant information. Parents are reminded that they need to attend one of the Information Sessions at St Nicholas Church scheduled for Wednesday 24th July at 5.30pm or Saturday 27th July at 2.00pm. Please keep our Confirmation Candidates in your prayers.
HOPe OUTREACH
HOPe Outreach are looking for additional volunteers to join their team to assist in HOPe’s ministry to the Rural Fire Service. HOPe, will use our food truck to provide meals to fire fighters, support staff, incident controllers & evacuees in fire emergencies around the Diocese. Training in food handling and the operation of the truck is provided free of charge to volunteers.
In order to keep the skills required and build team spirit, we also make our truck available to serve food & coffee at parish functions & fetes around the Diocese. Contact us if you will like the HOPe truck to come to your parish or school function!
Can you assist as a volunteer? Many employers provide paid leave for staff who volunteer to assist the RFS & SES in times of crisis or you may have time to volunteer out of work hours remembering that emergencies are not 9 to 5 events! If you are interested in joining this amazing team, or to make an enquiry about the work of HOPe, please email your details to pmanvell@armidale.catholic.org.au and we will be in touch with you.
God Bless one and all.
