We are committed to equipping our students with a diverse set of tools necessary for their success as proficient writers. Spelling, a complex skill integral to writing, requires learners to utilize a broad range of knowledge about the English language.
Our teaching approach will evolve with students' developmental stages. In the early years (F-2), the focus is on phonics (letter-sound relationships) and visual strategies, delivered through our 'Little Learners Love Literacy' program. As students progress to the middle (3-4) and upper (5-6) years, we build on these foundational skills by introducing morphology (the study of word structure) and etymology (the history and origins of words) through various methods, including the 'Spelling Mastery' program and vocabulary enrichment from book studies.
When we read more, we recognise and strengthen our vocabulary this creates strong pathways to enhance our spelling skills. Another great reason to be reading a great book at home!
