Connect: Year 2
Welcome to our latest Grade 2 Newsletter!!! The weather is still dreadful but we are hopeful it will soon pass. Please ensure your child has a spare change of clothes in their bag...we are well aware of how hard it is to resist jumping in a puddle or ten when the opportunity presents itself!!
Enjoy your fortnight,
Hailee, Emma, Krystal and Maddy

Reminder
- We will be heading to Myuna Farm NEXT TUESDAY (6th August). Information has been sent out via the QKR app for permission and payment. Students will be exploring Living Things on the Farm- waste, produce gardening, paddock feeding and train ride to the wetlands. We recommend gumboots (and a raincoat/warm coat/beanie if the weather decides to be difficult) for this day to ensure school shoes aren't ruined! Students will need to pack a small backpack with their recess, lunch and a water bottle.
- Please send in your child's reading satchel every day. Our new home readers are covered and ready to go so will be coming home in the next week or so. Students MUST keep these in their satchels to ensure they are protected. We will not be sending home readers without satchels.
- We go to Library on Monday so please ensure your child's satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home.
- Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.
- Please be mindful that mornings are a time filled with lesson prepping, staff collaboration and preparation for the day. We are always happy to schedule meetings with parents and guardians on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, alternatively feel free to email us with any questions, comments or concerns.
Updated Weekly Timetables
Our Specialist timetable has changed for Semester Two. We now have all sessions on Thursday and Friday. Please see below for each individual classes timetable. We have also included the updated Lunchtime Clubs roster for you to discuss with your child!
Upcoming Learning
Literacy
In the next week, we will be reviewing our Stage 7.3 sounds before exploring Stage 7.4 sounds. In our previous newsletters we outlined all the Stage 7.3 sounds so please feel free to scan back through those to find out more. Click here for a review video of the 7.3 Chitter Chatter Chants and 7.3 Speed Sounds.
We will be continuing to look at interesting vocabulary we find in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and using this language to help us to persuade a reader. We will continue exploring a range of advertisements, and identifying ways to catch the audience's attention, such as slogans, imagery and strong vocabulary. Students will be creating advertisements of their favourite chocolates. We will then begin our work on creating persuasive texts to convince our audience to attend Myuna Farm.
Numeracy
Over the next few weeks, we will be continuing our work on skip counting and non-zero starting points, understanding doubles up to twenty, and exploring elements of measurement.
We will be continuing our work in problem solving and using our mathematical skills to communicate our ideas and work through a problem.

Inquiry
In Inquiry, we are well into our learning about using Earth's resource sustainably. Students have built on their specific vocabulary in this unit, as well as showing what they know about energy, water and soil and exploring water and it's use in our school.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, we will continue exploring 'Help Seeking' strategies with a specific focus on skills to support peers and will discuss the types of situations in which they would be best to seek adult assistance. Students will also develop an understanding of the importance of finding the language to name problems when help-seeking.
