Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

SOMERS CAMP

Students are having a fabulous time at Somers Camp and I would like to thank Ms Hann for organising this experience and to staff for attending.

Please see the email below from Steph:

Greetings from Somers Camp,

I am delighted to inform you that our region has arrived safely at Somers School Camp and has quickly settled into the camp routines. The transition has been smooth, and the children are adjusting to new friends, teachers and school camp activities.

The Somers staff have already commented on how fantastic our children are, which is truly heartwarming to hear, and a reflection of the great work our schools do. We are certainly seeing them demonstrate your school values. The groups have actively been engaging in a variety of activities today, including bike education, Environmental Studies, Bush Cooking, and Boating. Each group is embracing these experiences with enthusiasm and a great attitude.

I had the pleasure of working with the boating group, where the emphasis is on teamwork and effective communication. They demonstrated remarkable cooperation and a willingness to support one another.

As part of their experience, the children are completing a camp book, which serves as a reflection of their time here. We are providing support to those who need assistance with their bookwork to ensure everyone can fully capture their experiences.

While a few children are dealing with some homesickness, the overall sentiment is positive, and they are tracking well in their activities and interactions. Rest assured, we are providing the necessary support to help them feel comfortable and engaged. The visiting teachers have been sensational!

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the camp progresses.

Best regards,

Stephanie Hann

WORKING BEE - SATURDAY 10TH AUGUST 2024 - 9AM TO12PM

Saturday 10th August we are holding a working bee. Jobs may include a general yard tidy, weeding, sweeping and furniture removal and repair.

It would be great to see as many families along to assist where possible.

JAPANESE VISITORS

This week we were lucky to have a group of high school students from Fukuoka Japan visit our school. Foundation and Year 6 students had the opportunity to practice using their Japanese to ask questions including “onamae  wa nan desu ka?” (What’s your name?),  “ogenki desu ka?” (How are you?), “nan sai desu ka?” (How old are you?) and “sukina tabemono wa nan desu ka?” (What is your favourite food?).

The students also learned how to make some animals using origami (paper folding) and played a Japanese game with “kami fuusen” (paper balloons).

Thank you to Brauer College, the Fukuoka Japan-Australia Society and Brooke Gent (parent and Brauer College Japanese teacher) for organising this wonderful cultural exchange for our students.

100 DAYS OF SCHOOL AND GRANDPARENTS MORNING TEA FOR FOUNDATION STUDENTS

On Monday 5th August, Foundation students are holding an open morning for their Grandparents. The session will run from 9am to11am and include various activities and supplied morning tea. Student’s grandparents can pop in at any time, and may wish to just attend the assembly or come for the classroom visit. This visit coincides with Foundation students celebrating 100 Days of School. Students are encouraged to come to school dressed as their 100 year self.
