School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) at Greenhills

Our Curriculum Day on Friday 26th July was a wellbeing focus on School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS). All staff were involved in Professional Learning where they were introduced to what SWPBS is, the impact it has and the systems that have been set up at Greenhills to support its success. This evidence-based approach aims to enhance the social culture and behavioural climate of Greenhills Primary School. By implementing SWPBS, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

At Greenhills, our focus is on the following principles;

  • We are connected - Being connected means building strong relationships within our school community, encouraging cooperation, and fostering a sense of belonging
  • We are responsible - Responsibility is emphasised by teaching students to take ownership of their actions, make positive choices, and contribute to a respectful and productive learning environment.
  • We are safe - Ensuring safety involves creating a secure and supportive atmosphere where students feel protected and valued.

We believe that by reinforcing these values, we can create a positive and nurturing environment for all students. Your support and partnership in this is crucial to our success and we encourage you to discuss these principles with your children at home. All students have been involved in a launch session this week run by members of the Principal team. The Behaviour expectations will then be taught inside their classrooms throughout the year and will continually be revised and retaught. We know that students displaying our Greenhills Expected behaviours will only be seen if they are explicitly taught and given feedback. This feedback is what we value at Greenhills, and we are focusing on recognising and acknowledging those students who are demonstrating our expected behaviours.

Inside all classrooms and around the school you will see our SWPBS expected behaviour posters shown. These are there to remind our students, teachers and community of these expectations and will also be referenced through teaching moments regularly. These were workshopped by our Wellbeing and Inclusion team, our staff and students.

SWPBS sits inside our Wellbeing Curriculum. We already teach Respectful Relationships, Zones of Regulation and the Personal and Social Capabilities Curriculum and we feel the SWPBS framework will complement what we already do at Greenhills. Students who feel safe, connected and have a sense of responsibility are students who will thrive academically at school.
