HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL: Well done to students in Years 3 to 6 and thank-you to our fantastic school community which made our House Athletics Carnival for 2024 a huge success! The Carnival was held at Tom Kelly Athletics Track in Doncaster East on Wednesday 24th July and students competed against one another in their age groups.  We had a perfect day for Athletics considering the weather we had last week.  We were extremely lucky it wasn’t raining or too cold.

This year, we had a change to our normal Athletics program as the upcoming District carnival has been modified. We started the morning with the tabloid program which consisted of 8 rotations; 800m, 200m, Shot Put, Discus, Triple Jump, Long Jump, High jump and Hurdles events. All students participated in the tabloid program in their age groups/grades.  In the afternoon, we ran the 100m sprint and the Circular (4x100m) relays to finish off. It was a jam packed day and unfortunately we ran out of time to run the Shuttle Relay.

Students are to be congratulated on their wonderful achievements and for showing great sports-personship. I saw lots of students demonstrating our school values: excellence, respect, kindness and integrity. It was fantastic to see students cheering along and supporting each other in their houses.

Thank-you to all the POPS staff and to our wonderful parent volunteers who assisted on the day, there are too many to name, but I really appreciate your help and support.  Thank-you also to the parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and siblings who came along to support. And a very big special thank-you to our amazing Sports House Captains who help set up the track in the morning as well as ensure the smooth running of the day.

Wow, we had a close finish with only 1 point separating 1st and 2nd place! Here are our overall points and results:

2nd - PETTY

Congratulations  ’GRANT’  House winners for 2024!

Over the next few weeks, I will be looking at the results and choosing a team to compete at our District Athletics Carnival on Thursday 5th September at Bill Sewart Athletics track, Burwood.
