Athletics Day was a resounding success, offering students the opportunity to experience personal achievements and celebrate their individual successes. The event was marked by enthusiastic participation and outstanding performances, making it a memorable day for all involved.
Thank you Mrs Carbone, along with all the staff and parents who assisted in organising and running the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly. We were also fortunate with the weather, which stayed clear, contributing to the overall enjoyment and success of the day. Congratulations to Grant House, who were the overall winners of the day.
Congratulations to all Year 3 and 5 students who completed the NAPLAN assessments in Term 1. Individual reports were sent home last week, and students and their families should be proud of their efforts. Completing formal assessments is a significant achievement. Our school has used preliminary data since the beginning of Term 2 to inform our teaching and learning programs.
This term, we have compared our school data with similar schools and those within our network. Our students' performance is excellent, reflecting the hard work of our students, teachers, and the school. The percentage of Year 3 students at strong and exceeding levels was above that of similar schools and our network in reading, writing, and numeracy. Year 5 students also performed above similar schools in writing and numeracy and exceeded both similar and network schools in reading.
Miss Dixon, our Year 4 teacher, will be leaving POPS next week to pursue career opportunities outside teaching and support her partner's business. She began at POPS in 2019 She taught Year 5 for three years, took two years' leave after COVID, and then returned this year. Miss Dixon is passionate about student well-being, and has played a key role in organising student programs, especially our SRC. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
We are pleased to welcome Miss Clark as Miss Dixon's replacement. Miss Clark is an experienced teacher who has worked at Templestowe Heights and has recently served as a CRT at various schools, including POPS.
Ollie Thomas (5IG): Ollie will compete in the World Freeride Tour's first qualifying event at Mount Hotham on August 3-4, representing the U14 Mount Hotham Freeski team. We wish Ollie good luck. Maybe one day, we will see him compete in the Winter Olympics for Australia!
Have a great weekend,
Ms Garrity
