Marian College – 1989 Musical Production – “Addicted to Love”

At this time of the year Musicals are under the spotlight! 150 students were involved in the 1989 production of “Addicted to Love”!

Below is the Yearbook Magazine write-up and the old process for buying tickets!

Term 2 has many delights, and one of these is the school production. This year, like last year, we chose to write our own script, this year based on the play “Romeo and Juliet.” Our base was Verona College, an academy for Young Women, whose ambitious principal – Barbara Capulet – wants a school production of a Shakespeare play. The girls, however, have other ideas and proceed to present their own versions of “Romeo and Juliet.” Somewhere in the school a group of girls is even having their own, real-life “R & J” experience… (can life imitate art?) We had a fabulous soap opera, a queue of would-be “die-ers,” a pasta sauce war, thrilling dance, a version of Othello, an explosion, loads of witty dialogue and even our own songs! With a cast of 150 – how could it fail to be a hit! … and next year?

Tickets for our all-star blockbuster go on sale next Wednesday. The cost? A mere $5 for adults and $3 for students, pensioners and the unemployed. What a cheap night out! Tickets can be bought by writing name, homeroom, number and type of ticket required (e.g. adult or student) and the night – either Monday June 19th or Tuesday June 20th, on the front of an envelope and handing this, with the correct money inside, to the front office. The tickets will be processed in order of receipt and girls will then get their tickets the following morning, at homeroom.
