Principal's Message

Dear members of the Marian community

Our College motto "Strength & Kindness" embodies the core values we strive to instill in our students. Strength represents resilience, determination, and the courage to overcome challenges, while kindness reflects compassion, empathy, and a commitment to caring for others. Together, these values guide our community in fostering a supportive environment where every individual can thrive. The past month has been filled with dynamic events that have strengthened these community bonds, showcasing our commitment to living out our motto in every aspect of school life.

Marian Celebration Day:

A Joyous Event! Marian Celebration Day was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the strength of our community. It was a lovely event that highlighted our dynamic nature and multi-faith, diverse community. Every culture and faith was represented at our opening liturgy, where we took the time to give thanks, acknowledge our diversity, reflect on the College’s growth, and share our hopes for the future.

A highlight of the day was our guest speaker, Alyssa Huynh, an author, anti-racist activist, and alumna. Her inspirational message resonated deeply with our students, as she shared anecdotes of growing up as the daughter of a migrant family and becoming a strong, independent woman. Alyssa’s experiences and her courage in facing social media backlash for advocating for the voiceless truly captured the hearts of our students.

The celebration continued with numerous food stalls, exciting rides, and a DJ who was a big hit, especially when Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" played, leading to a memorable whole-school sing-along.

As for me, experiencing my first Marian Day as Principal was a delight – I’m already looking forward to next year’s festivities!

Student Pathways

The College has been busy in setting up the planning and education process for future pathways for our students. Year level assemblies have started to be held about future pathways/subject selections with parent information sessions being held via webinars over the last few weeks. At the same time our Careers Team has been busy presenting and interviewing students as they plan their path for next year and beyond. This process is purposefully extensive as it allows students to reflect on their learning goals and consider their future years at Marian.

Welcome to new Staff and Students

We warmly welcomed prospective families during our College tours, highlighting the unique spirit of Marian College. Our Discovery Days provided Grade 4 and 5 students with hands-on learning experiences, allowing them to explore new skills, share their creations, and get a taste of secondary school life.

A special welcome to students joining the Marian College community in Term 3 – Jordan Negash Yr 9, Shalom Suega Yr 9, Monida NinthavongYr 10, and Riyaq Mohamoud  Yr 11. New staff includes Chris Nicholl as the Marketing & Communications Officer. I know that they will find a home at Marian where they belong and can flourish.

A Prayer for Our Community

Loving God,

We thank you for the example of St. Brigid of Kildare, whose life of strength and kindness inspires us daily. As a community, we embrace our College motto, "Strength & Kindness," striving to instill these core values in our students. Grant us the resilience, determination, and courage to overcome challenges, and the compassion, empathy, and commitment to care for one another.

May these values guide us in fostering a supportive environment where every individual can thrive. We give thanks for the dynamic events of the past month that have strengthened our bonds and showcased our dedication to living out our motto in every aspect of school life.

Bless our community as we continue to grow together in strength and kindness.

Amen.
