From the Principal's Desk

Welcome to Week 3!

PUBLIC EDUCATION WEEK:

Public Education Week is when we celebrate and acknowledge all those who contribute to our children and young people’s educational journey.  School staff, parents and carers, community leaders and P&C associations all play an important role in our students' education.

This year’s theme is:  Proud to belong.  Public Education Week is a time for all of us to feel "proud to belong", sharing our pride in being part of NSW public education and the achievements of our students and staff.

On Tuesday, we celebrated our Networks Education Week awards at Martin's Gully, with all schools in the Network attending.  Our school captains, Harry and Lily were the masters of ceremony and Jake and Arie did the Acknowledgement of Country.  They all did an outstanding job.  Our choir performed beautifully, conducted by Ruthie Clendinning. Thank you Ruthie for the time you volunteer for our choir.  Sophie Clendinning also performed a solo piece.  Her voice and performance was so beautiful and gave the audience goose bumps.  Well done Sophie.

It was an honour to witness our awardees receive their awards for their contributions to Martin's Gully and Public Education.  Our recipients for 2024 were;

Outstanding Student Award

Charlotte Perry

Showing integrity in every aspect of her schooling, displaying a genuine love of learning, determination to succeed and respect for her peers.

 Outstanding Community Award

Jodie Riggall

Significant contribution to the Martin's Gully P&C Association of a number of years.

 Outstanding Staff Award

Dawn Stainton

Going above and beyond in providing support to staff, students and parents and always with a smile on her face.

OPEN CLASSROOMS:

Today we had our parents and community members to visit the classrooms to celebrate Public Education Week.  Each class were playing Number Sense and Place Value Maths games and the children were so happy to be sharing their learning and love of Mathematics with the special people in their life.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL:

Last Wednesday and Thursday, we completed our track and field events for our 2024 Athletics carnival.  All students showed amazing spirit and wonderful sportsmanship.  We celebrated our place getters this week and we look forward to announcing our Age Champions at the next assembly in week 4.

Green and Gold Day

On Monday 12th August, students are invited to show their support for our Australian Olympic team on the day of the closing ceremony.  Students can wear green and gold clothes or accessories to show their Aussie spirit and cheer for our athletes.

PAX WORD OF THE FORTNIGHT:

CONSIDERATE

  • Considerate means to think about other people’s feelings and be thoughtful of others.
  • Treat people how you would like to be treated!
  • At Martin’s Gully, we ‘Show Respect’ by being considerate of those around us.
  • Let’s take care of each other and treat others respectfully. Consider other people’s feelings at home, school and in the community.

ROAD SAFETY MESSAGE

Ensure your child always gets in and out of the car through the Safety Door, even if it means shuffling across the seats.  This is the rear kerb-side door of the car.  Never allow your child to get in and out of the car on the traffic side.
