Captains Corner
Welcome to the Captain’s Corner, with Alyssia and Patrick!
These past two weeks have been really busy. On Monday last week, as part of our curriculum, our Year 5/6 students had an online cyber safety incursion, our STEM captains will report with the details.
Last Friday, we had our super fun Olympic-themed Green and Gold dress-up day. Our Year 4s have been busy preparing for their Eucharist Sacrament. Last week they had their Commitment Mass and are looking forward to their retreat day next Friday.
Today, we celebrate St Mary Mackillop of the Cross’ Feast Day through a whole school Liturgy. Every class has spent time this week learning about her life.
A few weeks ago, some of the Year 5/6 girls took part in the Beachside Division netball competition, the girls who played will talk more about that. That's all for this week!

STEM Captains: Cyber Safety incursion
On Monday 29th we had an online incursion run by Tabitha from Kids Helpline. Tabitha explained to Year 5 and 6 what the Kids Helpline is and that you can call them “anytime, any reason”. You can call the Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800.
She talked to us about interacting online and taught us ways to be kind online and to how deal with cyberbullying. Tabitha told us that we can call for any reason - ANYTHING! And you can also contact them through a WebChat on their website.
After the session, we discussed what we had learned and also talked about how it can be really difficult to know what someone means online because you can’t see their face and can’t tell if they are having a joke/ being sarcastic, or real.
Some ways you can be kind online are:
- Think before posting
- Use positive language
- Make your messages clear to avoid confusion.

A big welcome back to Ms Cummings! We missed you while you were away but we pushed through it, and we also hope you had a great time in Paris.
St Joseph’s wishes you a great rest of the term!

Sport Captains: Green and Gold Day and STAR Values on the playground
On Green and Gold Day everyone dressed up to celebrate the Olympics. Year 6 kicked off the day at assembly with a presentation on Olympic athletes demonstrating our STAR values.
This week, we have seen lots of students on the yard being great examples of our STAR values!
Respect yourself and others:
Thanks to Alice and Amitie for being responsible with the sports equipment
Act Responsibly:
Good job to Sanchez and Ethan in Prep for helping collect the sports balls at the end of
break.

Beachside Netball
A couple of weeks ago, on Monday the 22nd of July 2024, The girls' netball team went to the Beachside Division Netball at Stonington Sports Centre. We all had a great time and tried our best, making new friends along the way.
We worked so hard to get to the Beachside and it was so much fun and we loved every second of it! We played five teams and we won three out of the five games. It was very stressful but it was very fun.
We trained every lunch leading up to it and even put some of our sports time into training and it really helped.
Well done to everyone on the team: Lenny, Harriet, Frances, Adhithi, Alexis, Alyssia, Pip, Bridget, and Lucy!
Finally, a BIG thanks to the Awesome Mr Cleary for training us and being there every step of the way with lots of hope for us!
