We are thrilled to once again host a Student Showcase of Learning and Work at the conclusion of Term 3. The Showcase will take place on the final afternoon of the term, Friday, 19th September, beginning at 2:00pm. Parents and families are invited to come along and view a variety of learning across all areas of the curriculum. Parents and families will be able to see work from all year levels, from Prep to Year 6.
Last Friday we had an opportunity to immerse ourselves in some Indigenous artefacts as part of our Inquiry unit for term 3.
Students participated in an engaging session with Skylar from Living Culture, who shared a range of fascinating insights into Indigenous tools, traditions, and culture.
Students learnt about the boomerang—its different types and purposes, from hunting to use in battle—and how skill and technique were required to throw it effectively. They were also introduced to the woomera (spear thrower), which was used to increase the power and distance of a spear.
Skylar explained the unique properties of the brushtail possum’s fur, which has hollow fibres and is considered one of the warmest in the world. Indigenous Australians used possum skin to create cloaks that provided warmth and protection.
Students also viewed a kangaroo pelt and learnt about the origins of the very first football, the marngrook, a ball made from animal furs.
It was a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of Indigenous knowledge, culture, and traditions.
Kind regards,
Mr Brendan, Ms Ashleigh and Ms Sue.
