Art Department Report

Tegan Crosbie

It has been a busy and exciting time in the Art Department!

Our Year 7 and 8 students have shifted their focus to Visual Communication Design in their art studies. Year 7's are exploring two-point perspective, applying their skills to creative projects such as treehouse designs, while Year 8's are working with one-point perspective to draw interior spaces. Both year levels are building strong technical skills while applying their imagination to design challenges.

The Ceramics elective has proven to be a standout favourite this semester, with the class at full capacity. Students are highly engaged in creating clay relief tiles, experimenting with texture, form and glazing techniques.

Meanwhile, the Visual Communication & Design elective students are putting their design skills into practice by developing unique and visually striking concepts for skateboard deck designs. Their work demonstrates both creativity and strong technical application of design elements and principles.

Our Year 10 Visual Communication Design students have been unleashing their creativity in an exciting new project: designing garments inspired by Australian native animals. Drawing inspiration from the unique forms, patterns, and colours found in our local wildlife, students have been sketching, developing concepts, and experimenting with fashion illustration techniques.

At the VCE level, students are at the business end of their studies. With folios and final artworks due in the coming weeks, they are showing the focus and dedication required for a folio-based subject. Their work reflects countless hours of development, with pages of annotation and documentation supporting their finished pieces. We look forward to seeing their final presentations and celebrating their achievements.

Recently, the Art Department was also represented at the Art Education Victoria Conference in Ballarat. The conference provided an inspiring opportunity to engage with creative workshops and inspirational speakers, sparking fresh ideas and approaches to bring back into the classroom. This professional learning will further enrich our students’ art experiences.

The Art Department is proud of the effort, creativity and enthusiasm our students are showing across all year levels, and we can’t wait to share more of their inspiring work with our community.
