Feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven

On 15 August, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven.

This special feast honours the belief that when Mary, the mother of Jesus, died, she was taken body and soul into Heaven. Mary was “assumed” into Heaven as a reward for her faithful role as the mother of Jesus. Although this event is not recorded in Scripture, it has been handed down through the long tradition of the Catholic Church.

The school will attend the parish Mass on Friday 15th August at 10.00 am to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. Our school choir will lead the singing and students will read the Prayers of the Faithful.

All school families are most welcome to join in this liturgical celebration to honour Mary.

Pope Leo XIV's Prayer Intentions

August is dedicated to 'mutual coexistence' or 'accepting everyone'.

Pope Leo XIV has asked the world to pray for mutual coexistence during the month of August.

There is an old saying, “If everyone was the same then the world would be a very boring place.”

We need to accept and value our similarities and differences.

This needs to be encouraged by our faith, community and world leaders.

Often the change needs to begin with us, the everyday people.

Please try to find some quiet time in your busy day to pray Pope Leo's Prayer Intention for the month of August.

Thank you.

For mutual coexistence

Let us pray that societies where coexistence seems more difficult might not succumb to the temptation of confrontation for ethnic, political, religious, or ideological reasons.

Amen
