Soccer afterschool at SJV

After a successful program with Football Star Academy last term, we have decided to work together with them this term and have them bring a soccer program to SJV after school on a Monday evening.  If you are keen to give it a try, just go to the QR code on the flyer and register with them and they will be in contact with you.  If you have any questions about the program please contact the area manager Johnny, you will see his number on the flyer.

We brought soccer to school of an afternoon a few years ago and it had a fabulous number of students involved.  So hopefully we can get this interest back again in 2025.

SJV Regional Netball

Wow what a great day! The girls worked so hard after having 2 nights of concert prior.  Thank you to all of the parents that came to Waverley Park to support us and to Bec for your assistance on the day also.  Here are what the girls had to say of their experience...

Our Region Netball team had an exciting day representing the school filled with determination and lots of lollies! We worked together, encouraged each other, and played our hardest in every match. It was a great experience, and we are proud of how we played and we had lots of fun playing with our friends. The teams we faced were a tough challenge but we pushed through and ended up coming third overall, making it to the semi finals. Thank you to Mrs Wall for being our coach, you gave us lots of words of wisdom and helped us learn and grow in our netball.  - Ella and Maddie

On Wednesday the 13th of August St James Netball team played at the regional netball finals. It was a fun day and we played our best in all the games. We won all 3 of our games and made it to the finals but unfortunately we lost the semi final. We played in the minor final which we won. That meant we came third. It was a great day of sportsmanship and netball and we can't wait for the next netball day soon. - Amelia

SJV Division Netball - Mixed

On the 6th of August the St James Mixed netball team played Division netball. It was a really fun day and a great experience. We played 5 games, we won 4 games and lost 1 by one goal against the team we lost by 12 points last time. We all played well and we ended up finishing 3rd in total but 1st in a pool. We were really proud of how we did and how we represented the school. So close!!! We thank Bec and Mrs Wall for coaching and helping us throughout the day. - Zac & Kaia

Year 4-6 House Athletics Trials

On Thursday we had phenomenal weather to conduct our 4-6 House Athletics Trials.  This is a chance to put into practice the different events we have practiced in our 4 week athletics unit at school and also try out for the District Athletics which is scheduled for the 11th of September.  It was great to see everyone participating and giving all events a go, particularly when it was out of some students' comfort zones and exhaustion was hitting from concert and netball for some year 6ers.

Thank you to all of our wonderful staff for running the various events and to parents Bec, Kath and Amy for  volunteering their time and assisting us on the day too.

Here is what our Sports Captains Ben and Spencer's experiences from the day......

The Athletics Day was a day filled with energy and fun and most importantly, no rain! We enjoyed competing in our events and cheering on our friends. We had many festive events including 1500m race, 800m race, 100m sprint, 200m sprint, 80m Hurdles, Shotput, Discus, High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump. Everyone gave their best effort, and it was great to see the years 4-6 participating with excitement and with their friends. Good luck to everyone who will represent the school in the District.

Year 5&6 Basketball Day

Will be held in week 6 at the Dandenong Basketball Stadium.  Fixtures if you want to come and watch your child will be added over the coming week.  Please note that when I add this after the Operoo has been sent out, my understanding is that you have to refresh the permission form and scroll down to the bottom of the form to see any additions I have made. Any further assistance please let me know, as I always add the fixture for all events but parents aren't seeing it.

If any students have tops from last year, could you please hand these in this week so we have enough for the day, as this one is quite a large competition with 13 of our own teams entered.

Spotlight on learning

PE in prep

In prep these past few weeks we have been focusing on a Perceptual Motor Program. This program focuses on developing fundamental movement skills and cognitive abilities through play-based activities. It aims to enhance a child's overall development by linking physical activity with cognitive and social-emotional learning. We have particularly focused on activities surrounding balance, fitness, hand eye coordination and locomotor skills.   The students have had lots of fun in their groups each week.

Have a fabulous week ahead

Stay safe, keep active
