Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Year 5/6 Newsletter- Week 5, Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are now well into Term 3, and the students are making fantastic progress across all areas of their learning. Here is a snapshot of what we’ve been working on and some important reminders for the weeks ahead.
Literacy
In literacy, students are busy constructing their information reports on the First Fleet and the transportation of convicts to Australia. We are focusing on adding detail and variety to our writing by including appositives (extra pieces of information about a noun, often separated by commas). Students are enjoying experimenting with these to enhance the quality of their reports.
Mathematics
This week in maths, we have been exploring the connections between multiplication and division. Students have been working on both the traditional algorithms and a range of alternative strategies for solving problems. We encourage students to share their preferred strategies at home to strengthen their understanding.
Inquiry
Students are preparing for Part 1 of their Inquiry project presentations, which will take place in Week 6. In these presentations, they will explore the concept of liveability in another country and compare it to life in Australia.
A reminder that Part 2 of the Inquiry project is due in Week 9. For this section, students will construct a display on their chosen country. Full instructions and requirements are available on Google Classroom.
Health – Sexual Education Program
In Weeks 7, 8, and 9, students will be participating in the **sexual education program. Please ensure that permission forms and payment are completed on Compass as soon as possible.
Inter-School Sport
The upcoming sport fixtures for our Year 6 teams are as follows:
Round | Date | Home/Away | Vs |
Round 5 | 22nd August | Home | Eltham Primary |
Round 6 | 29th August | Away | Montmorency |

Thank you for your continued support with your child’s learning. It’s been wonderful to see the enthusiasm the students are bringing into the classroom this term.
Thanks,
The Year 5/6 Team
