NAIDOC Week

Celebrating NAIDOC Week at Homestead.
In the first week of Term 3, Homestead Senior Secondary College came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week with three days of engaging, educational, and community-focused activities honouring the histories, cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The celebrations kicked off on Tuesday with a student-led baking session featuring native Australian ingredients. The standout treat—cookies topped with red gum honey and served with lemon myrtle tea—was a hit at our Food Tasting Day, with both students and staff enjoying the opportunity to explore traditional flavours in a modern twist.
Wednesday continued the theme of cultural appreciation through food, further building a strong sense of community and connection across the college.
The week wrapped up on Thursday with a range of fun and creative activities, including a crossword challenge and colouring competitions. Students showcased their knowledge and artistic skills, with some taking home prizes for their efforts.
NAIDOC Week at Homestead SSC was a fantastic success, reflecting our ongoing commitment to celebrating and learning from the rich cultural heritage of our First Nations peoples. We look forward to continuing this important journey of respect, understanding, and connection through the Marrung framework in the months and years ahead.
