Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Guardians and Friends of Nazareth

Recently, our staff and specially invited guests celebrated a 40 Year Anniversary dinner since the inception of Nazareth College.  In 1985, after numerous meetings, disagreements and deliberations, Nazareth buildings commenced and the founding Principal, Mr Paul D’Astoli (1986-1996), with the support of the Archdiocese, began recruiting staff and students for the commencement of the school year 1986.

That year, the school began with very little, portables and lots of open barren land.  Paul D’Astoli explained that communication was heavily reliant on telephones and the school in the first year was lucky to have a phone line.  As buildings were being erected, this phone line was accidentally dug up and cut.  This meant the school's only phone line was completely out of action.

How things have changed today.  If only we could have some simplicity like back then.

We were lucky to also hear from Mr Gregory Clarke (1997-2006), the second Principal, who spoke about his 10 year tenure here at Nazareth and the quality of the school Community in his time as Principal.

Mrs Anne McDonald was the College’s third Principal (2007-2016).  She was interstate on this evening, however, she did pass on her best wishes and hopes to visit the College later in the year.

The evening was a significant celebration in Nazareth's short history 40 year Milestone.

One interesting fact, since the school's first opening, I estimate that approximately 24,000 students and their respective families have been educated at Nazareth.  Each and every one of them making an impact on their wider communities.

A special award was presented to two significant Foundation Staff Members, known as Pioneers;

Both Catherine and Michelina have served from the start and continue inspiring Nazareth today.

In the coming weeks, we will be opening a time capsule that was installed and closed up in 2006.  This will be opened on the 40 year celebration.

This will be part of our Nazareth Day College Mass with all parties involved in 2006 returning to the College to open the capsule and offer up the content at the Offertory Procession on the day.  Any parents, grandparents, ex-students and ex-staff are most welcome to attend on Monday, 8 September.  The Mass will start at 11.30am.

Finally, the new Student Hub Building is progressing with the foundations and steel work nearing completion.  The slab is anticipated to be poured early next week, weather permitting.

God Bless

Mr Sam Cosentino
