Transition Support

With the end of 2023 fast approaching it can be a tricky time for many of our students and so we need to support our students through this transition period. Some students may feel worried whereas others may feel excited or even nervous. All these emotions are normal and are a part of the process of change. By providing students with support, they may be able to approach the transition period with confidence and resilience.

At Lysterfield, we support students during transition through a range of structured activities which can include the following;

  • Transition Plans
  • Student Voice surveys or collection
  • Parent Communication
  • Staff hand over
  • Transition days
  • Meet the teacher
  • Up Sessions
  • Social stories
  • Room tours
  • Wellbeing sessions such as Friendology and Peaceful Kids

To support your child throughout the transition phase, you can:

  • Listen to your child’s concerns and validate their feelings
  • Share times when you have also felt that emotion
  • Allow your child to feel nervous and support them during this time
  • Continue with normal routines or cut back on extracurricular activities
  • Talk about good/healthy friendships and good working partners.

When talking to students at LPS, they are looking forward to the following in 2024…..

  • Getting my Prep Buddy.
  • Being able to play on the reserve.
  • Going to camp.
  • Being with my friends.
  • Hopefully being a school leader.
  • Changing classrooms.
  • Being able to use Chrome books.
  • Getting my pen licence.
