Lachlan C – Year 12

Philosophers, People You Need to Know by Susanna Wright

What did you read?

A book on Philosophers, I read it during one of my SWEL sessions held in the library and I really liked it.

What did you like about it?

I like their approach, the philosophers thought process behind their decisions and the inspirational quotes built from their philosophy.

There was one that I really liked – a Chinese philosopher, his quote was like how we never really learn until we make mistakes [Confucious – Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall].

What did you rate it?

I’d give it a 7/10

Who would you recommend this book to?

I would recommend it to young teens.

World Philosophy Day was celebrated on the 16th of November

Beau D – Year 11

The Oxford History of the French Revolution 2nd Edition by William Doyle

Why did you choose this book?

Just in case Mr Yong asks about the French Revolution in class and I wanted to give an example about it and make myself look smarter, haha!

What was one of the things you found interesting?

One of the leaders of the revolution was very smart and tactical.

Was it easy to read?

Not at all!

What was difficult about it?

The words were small and clumped together.

So it was the visual aspect that made it difficult to read?

Yeah, it felt like my eyes were playing tricks on me. I feel like bigger text would have been nice [and made it easier to read].

What age group do you recommend this book?

Probably 17-20 year olds, or Year 12 students.

What would you rate this book?

3! Lots of straight facts rather than a story telling, I wanted more of a story telling format [which makes it easier to understand].

Lainey B – Year 10

Cracked Up To Be – Courtney Summers

[Things about] relationships, life.

What is the book about?

A school girl finding herself during tough times

Do you relate to the character?

In a sense, yes.

How many times have you read the book so far?

Three!

Have you read any more books by the author?

Not yet, we don’t have any more.

Should we add some more of her books to our collection?

Yes!

What did you like most about the story?

You can finish the book and you don’t have to go into the sequel, there’s no cliff hanger like other books and the story ends well.

What would you rate this book out of 10?

8/10

Reader recommendations?

Young adults or more mature readers
