Halloween in the Library!

As part of the exciting Halloween activities at Heathmont College, the library hosted a Halloween trivia event during recess and lunch, complete with candy treats. Our students demonstrated their knowledge by answering questions on a wide range of topics, including books, authors, film, television, and other Halloween-related trivia.

This was a fantastic day to join in, alongside other events like the Bake Sale, Sausage Sizzle, Dress Up, and Trivia Night! Thanks to Miss Growse and the dedicated Heathmont staff for their hard work in organizing those activities and to our students and staff for their enthusiastic participation!

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day, also known as Armistice Day, is observed on November 11th each year in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It is a day to honour and remember the members of the armed forces who died in the line of duty during World War I and subsequent conflicts.

The significance of November 11th dates back to the end of World War I. On November 11, 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice (a temporary cessation of hostilities) was signed, effectively ending World War I. This moment marked the end of a devastating and prolonged conflict, which had a profound impact on the world.

Key elements of Remembrance Day include a two-minute silence at 11:00 a.m., ceremonies at war memorials, wearing red poppies as a symbol, honouring veterans and active military, and educating the younger generation about the importance of peace. This day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made and the commitment to peace.

The aim of Remembrance Day is to ensure that the memory of those who lost their lives in conflicts is preserved and that the horrors of war are not forgotten. It is a day for people to come together to reflect on the past and to reaffirm the commitment to peace and preventing further conflicts.

Many schools and organizations use this day as an opportunity to educate the younger generation about the significance of Remembrance Day and the importance of peace.
