Principal's Report

We are now in week 7 of Term 4 and, as predicted, the term is speeding by and the end of the year now looming and feeling very close. It is feeling a little quieter around campus as our Year 12 cohort have finished all of their exams, our Year 11 cohort are coming to the end of theirs and our Year 10 cohort have their last classes today with exams starting on Monday. We also had our Year 7 and 8 Gala Day on Wednesday so that was a quiet day indeed!

As always there has been much happening around the campus with Halloween fundraisers for the Performing Arts Centre, Bandana Day (where we raised around $400 for cancer research), a community project fundraising day led by the Vocational Major students and, of course, our Year 12 VCE exams running.

Around campus

The Vape detectors are up and running in the bathrooms across the college and already, we are seeing a marked decline in these being triggered which indicates less frequent use of vapes in the toilets, which is encouraging. We have works beginning too on the Year 12 Study Centre to ready this for 2024 and make some modifications to entryways in order to improve access for students. We held our interviews for next year’s student leadership team with positions for School Captains, Vice Captains and prefects up for grabs. Results of this process will be announced soon at our Celebration Assembly on Monday the 11th of December. Parents are invited to this assembly to share in the celebration of awards and the hand over of this year’s student leaders to next year’s.

On the horizon

Coming up in the very near future, we have our student leadership camp for years 7 – 10 emerging student leaders at Rubicon and in the same week, Year 12 Valedictory, Year 11 formal, Year 10 formal and our Sports Academy Awards night. It is going to be a very busy week! Our Year 11 students will also be starting their Step Up program which formally begins their final year of high school study.

Looking a little further into the future, on the 12th of December, we have the state-wide orientation day where we will meet our incoming Year 7 cohort of 2024. This is always a great day and one that is much looked forward to by both the students and the staff. On this day, all of our 2023 students will be attending Gumbaya Park for a fun excursion day to celebrate the end of the year and to give our newest community members  the opportunity to experience their new surroundings with a little less noise than is usual.

Student achievement

For this month’s report, I would like to congratulate Riley George on his recent achievements in his chosen sport outside of school. Riley is, today, competing in the Victorian Country Series Championship for Karting in Cobden. He goes into this race leading in Championship points and we wish him all the very best for this race. Just making it to this level of the competition has been a very big achievement in itself and we are all very proud of you!
