Year 9 Indoor Climbing & Bouldering Excursion

In Term 4 students embarked on an exhilarating excursion for their Outdoor Education elective, focusing on indoor rock climbing and bouldering. The day kicked off with a sense of anticipation as they arrived at Gravity Worx in Pascoe Vale, an indoor climbing gym. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students learned essential techniques, including belaying and proper hand and foot placements, fostering teamwork and trust as they navigated the challenging routes. Students completed a safety induction with a heavy focus on teamwork in which students worked in pairs and completed safety checks of their harnesses followed by spotting their fellow climbing partner.

As the day progressed, students faced varying levels of difficulty, each climb presenting its own set of obstacles and. Students defeated their fear of heights and showed resilience by climbing twenty metre walls with confidence and some students even accomplishing this feat in under one minute.

After a morning of physical and mental exertion, the group headed to the picturesque Maribyrnong River for a well-deserved break. Lunch by the riverside provided a moment of relaxation and reflection, with students sharing stories of their climbing adventures and bonding over shared experiences.

A special thanks to Valentine Hicks for assisting with the excursion and working with the students to achieve their goals.
