Year 3 Persuasive Writing
Throughout this term, our Year 3 students have been learning about persuasive writing and how they can use facts to support their opinions, and try to persuade an audience on a certain topic. Our students have spent time learning about how persuasive techniques can be used in letters, how they are used to advertise certain products, and how they can be used in verbal debates on many different issues.
A learning experience that the Year 3’s have particularly enjoyed is creating persuasive letters, using their writing to try and convince readers to agree with them on topics such as ‘cars should not be used as transport’, ‘we should not have to wear school uniform’, ‘cats are better than dogs’ and ‘smoking should be banned’.
During our persuasive writing lessons, students have learnt how to support their opinions with facts, and learnt how they can use expressive vocabulary and high modality words to better be able to get their point across.
Currently, students are working in small groups to choose a topic that they will later debate on. Some of the topics students have explored are ‘social media does more harm than good’ and ‘computers are better than books’. We look forward to hearing their thoughts on these topics and more over the coming weeks.
