Class 3 News

LOLA KD

Dear Class 3 Parents and Carers,

Your children’s shelters have arrived at school and they look incredible! It is wonderful to see the focus each child has placed on their shelter and all of the hard work they have put into them. They are beginning to present them to the class individually, but will also be presenting them as a class to the school from Thursday 14th until next week.

We are almost halfway through our Money and Trade Main Lesson and it has been a lot of fun! The children enjoyed their bartering afternoon last week. We reflected on the activity, discussing what makes a fair trade. We have been enjoying lots of wonderful stories about trade as well, so please ask your children to recount them if you remember to!

This has been a very activity-rich main lesson so far which has been a lot of fun, and has helped the children to experience the practicalities and impracticalities of trading and bartering. Our knowledge of trade is helping us to understand why money needed to be created!

This week and next we are beginning to focus on money and currencies. We will be working more with recognising notes and coins and doing activities that involve counting money and giving change. This is a great time to drop off any foreign or interesting money you may have that we could have a look at in Main Lesson time. It is also a great time to use physical money when possible, perhaps at the Todd Mall Markets, or even the petrol station, and then let your child count the change!

We have finished harvesting and threshing the grain, but are continuing to winnow. The children will grind the grain with Brittany next year.

In the garden, we continue to plant, compost, weed and feed the chooks and are working together with Kaz to build a teepee for beans to grow on.

Thank you for making sure your child has remembered their swimmers, shoes, goggles and towel! The children seemed extra prepared this year for swimming, and it has made the whole experience a lot more fun and enjoyable for everyone!

I hope you and your families have a wonderful rest of the year!

Warmly,

Lola
