Once Upon A Festival
The Year 5/6 students recently attended the Once Upon a Festival at Immanuel College;
An inaugural school-based literary festival offering workshops, talks and performances by Australian authors and illustrators
They attended presentations by authors Charlotte Barkla, Jaqueline Harvey and James Foley. These talks focused on 'Stepping through Time', 'Spies, Lies and Mysteries' and 'Graphic Novel Boom'.
The students then attended a variety of workshops where they learnt a variety of skills such as 'Sketching Animal Characters' to' Bugs, Slugs and Tiny Critters'. Looking at 'Fantastic Fiction' and 'Fantastic Worlds' story writing was also popular.
Congratulations to Kyle Perera, who won an Honourable Mention for his story, which he entered into the writing competition. His story was displayed at the festival for others to read.
It was a wonderful morning out, immersing ourselves in literacy!

Year 3/4 Mylor Camp
On Thursday, 31 October, the Year 3/4 students hopped on the bus and headed to Mylor Adventure Camp with excitement and anticipation.
When we reached our destination, we lugged our items to the Stringybark deck, ate our lunch, and viewed our home for the next two days.
We were introduced to Cameron, who was our Group Leader during our stay. He taught us some sign language about the places we would visit during our stay. As we walked around the main areas of the camp, we heard about the fun we would have and the rules we would need to abide by.
After we toured the grounds we were allowed to unpack our belongings into the dorms, eat our lunch and get our gear ready for the day's first activity. We did 3 activities on our first day with an afternoon tea break in the middle. These activities consisted of - Low Ropes, Crate Stacking, Flying Possum, Bouldering, Raft Making, Flying Fox, Frisbee Golf, Giant Swing and Frisbee Golf. After our very busy start, we were about to have some free time and get ready for dinner.
Dinner was delicious. We had lasagne, garlic bread and salad and then to finish it off we had chocolate mousse for dessert.
Now fueled with food we started our night activities. We played a game called Excalibur. Each of us was divided into houses - House York, House Lancashire, House Leicester, House Essex, House Oxford, House Devonshire and House Nottingham. We were given cards and had to present them in front of the Royals, who were teachers, if our card was stronger we won both if not we lost and tried again. The game evolved and we had to present our cards either dancing, smiling or being serious. There were also wild cards which seemed to turn the game into an exciting quest. There were fun tasks in between game rounds such as fencing with our thumbs, jousting in pairs and a dance-off.
By the end of the game, all had fun and were able to participate in the festivities.
We had supper, which was a giant ANZAC biscuit, and then we were able to get into bed.
While the night wasn’t too restless most of us slept and were woken up to another beautiful day.
We packed up and cleaned up our dorms and headed up to breakfast which again was a morish meal of a variety of cereals, toast, scrambled eggs, different spreads and fruit juice. We then headed into our last two activities for the day.
Throughout our stay, our instructors were kind and helpful, helping us overcome our fears and step out of our comfort zones. We braved some daring feats by going up high, tested our teamwork skills and challenged our thinking with obstacles to maneuver.
We ended our time at camp with a yummy chicken burger and mouth-watering watermelon. As we packed the bus some of us were tired and ready to go home, some of us wanted to stay and most of us could not believe camp had come to an end.
As we made our way back to school we shared the great memories we had with our friends and couldn’t wait to share them with our parents when we got back to school.
We thank our great God for looking after us and giving us amazing weather. He kept us safe and allowed us to find joy outdoors and doing activities we had never done before.
