CGSAV Softball and Tennis
Earlier this month our Year 7 and 8 Softball and Tennis teams made their way to Kilbreda College to compete in the Junior SEGAP Softball and Tennis Tournament.
Our teams played each of the schools, demonstrating great strength and kindliness across the competition. Our students should be proud of their efforts with both our Tennis and our Softball teams placing 4th, and students Chi D and Emma C being awarded Most Valuable Player in Softball and Tennis, respectively.
A big thank you and congratulations to all of the students and staff involved!
Diamond Girls
A group of students from Years 7 and 9 participated in the Diamond Girls Baseball Gala Day hosted by Springvale Lions Baseball Club.
Volunteers from the Springvale Lions Baseball Club help coach our students, allowing them to practice their skills in some drills and mini-games before concluding the day with a game of baseball. The day was filled with lots of laughter and fun, and the students displayed great teamwork across the day.
Thank you to the Springvale Lions Baseball Club for hosting us, and to everyone involved in the day.
Italian Excursion - Play at Melbourne University
Recently our Year 10 and Year 11 Italian classes were personally invited to watch an Italian play performed by the first year Italian students at Melbourne University. This performance was part of their theatre project assessment in the teaching and learning of Italian.
The play was called “ Non tutti i ladri vengono per nuocere” or “The Virtuous Burglar” by Dario Fo. The comic play discusses relationships, morals and the antics of classes of Italian society.
Dario Fo was born in 1926 and died in 2016 at 90 years of age. He was an Italian playwright, actor, theatre director, stage designer, political campaigner and the recipient of the 1997 Nobel Prize in Literature. His works combined comedic methods of the Commedia dell’Arte, a theatrical style popular with the working classes.
The students thoroughly enjoyed their Italian theatrical experience and had the opportunity to chat with the students afterwards. Later they also had a walk around the grounds of Melbourne University. All in all, it was a fantastic experience.

Year 10 Drawing & Sculpture; Mash-up Drawings
Inspired by the bold and vibrant style of Australian artist, Minna Gilligan, our Year 10 artists have been creating technicolour mash-up drawings! 🎉 Using a mix of materials and trialling many techniques in mark-making. A big congratulations to our talented young artists! 👏
“The mashup drawing task allowed me to express my creativity by combining two different artworks to create my own. It was nice using different materials to develop a unique artwork.” Lauren
“Doing this mash-up drawing gave me an insight into art from different decades as well as open up many creative possibilities. I enjoyed the freedom we had with this task with all the options and variations”. Serena
“During the process of making my artwork, I've learned to step out of my comfort zone and experiment with multiple different mediums.” Mandy
Year 9 Camp
There was both excitement and apprehension in the air as Year 9 students and staff boarded the bus to travel to Camp Marysville on the 23rd October. The purpose of this camp was to provide a unique outdoor education experience for our students that pushed them outside of their comfort zone and offered them the opportunity to scale new heights both physically and mentally. Our students certainly rose to the challenge.
As staff, we were full of admiration as students showed amazing courage and resilience participating enthusiastically in all the activities. Canoeing was a favourite experience for most students and the joyous squealing and splashing was fantastic. Even those who capsized, laughed through their misadventure and climbed aboard again with smiles on their faces. Some of our students were able to scale the full heights of the ropes course, earning the respect and admiration of their peers as they showed tremendous courage. Students embraced the challenge of camping out and gained a true appreciation of the beauty of nature stargazing and cooking over a trangia.
Students also enjoyed a “grow it, cook it” session in the outdoor pizza oven and they all agreed that picking fresh herbs from the garden is the secret to a tasty pizza. Initiative games, bush skills and “the beast” activity pushed our students to develop both their team-building and problem-solving skills.
Most importantly, all of this wonderful learning was experienced with their peers and the camaraderie and friendship shown by all was fantastic. This was a tech-free camp and students quickly adjusted to life without mobile phones, replacing them with board games, conversation and sleep!
We are very proud of all our Year 9 students and incredibly grateful to the staff who supported our students on their amazing outdoor adventures.

Last week our Year 8 students and their teachers took on the stunning coastal walk from Brighton to Black Rock.
This journey wasn't just about getting active — we soaked up the good vibes of nature, felt the ocean breeze, and shared plenty of laughs with friends along the way.
Here's to exploring, connecting, and recharging outdoors!
Year of Jubilee Mass Celebration
On Sunday 24th November, six of our Year 10 students represented Killester College at Mass held at St Patrick Cathedral for the launch of the Year of Jubilee.
The students were welcomed by Bishop Comensoli as young Pilgrims of hope and encouraged to be people of faith in their endeavour to transform the world.
The students will form part of our youth group and will participate in a number of events for the Year of Jubilee in 2025.
Year 10 Fashion Workshop
Our Year 10 students bravely took on the challenge of designing and constructing dresses inspired by the Iconic actor Audrey Hepburn.
They learnt difficult processes like seams, darts and zips and researched, designed and constructed the dresses. They even draped ideas onto their scaled mannequins. The results speak for themselves.
Congratulations on such a fine effort.
