Year 11 VCE VM

This term started on a high note for our Year 11 VCE-VM and VPC students, who enjoyed a vibrant celebration assembly that set a positive tone for the weeks ahead. The assembly was a fun-filled event where students were recognised for their hard work and achievements with a variety of prizes, including $30 Westfield vouchers, canteen vouchers, and chocolates. One of the highlights of the day was the "spin the wheel" activity, where students excitedly spun the wheel to win their prizes.

In addition to the celebration, the assembly featured an engaging round of the popular game "1% Club," which was enjoyed by the entire cohort. The excitement didn’t stop there, as students were treated to a special preview performance from the talented "Shrek the Musical" team, giving everyone a taste of what’s to come in the upcoming production.

The term has also included important educational presentations. Last week, VM and VPC students received an informative session from the school nurse on the dangers of vaping, a timely and relevant topic. Today, the students attended a presentation from the RSPCA, broadening their understanding of animal welfare and the responsibilities that come with caring for animals.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in making these events possible. The continued support and participation from our staff and community are crucial in providing our students with a well-rounded educational experience.

Year 12 VCE and VCE VM

It has been a great start to Term Three. Students have been busy completing coursework, SAC’s and preparing for the upcoming exams. The Year 12 team would like to congratulate all the students for their dedication and resilience they have shown. Well done and keep up the great effort!

Attendance

Term 3 is a tough term for year 12 as they get closer towards the end of unit 4. In both the VCE general and the VCE Vocational major students all need to be finished with their work at the end of term 3. As it becomes overwhelming student will start to drop off in their attendance. It is imperative that students are at school everyday to be able to ensure that they are keeping up with their attendance requirements. If you are noticing any issues at home, please let their year 12 leader know.

Also, when calling the absence line to advise the school of student absences, please stipulate a reason for your child’s absence.

Lates

Students that are late need to sign in before going to class. This is for a few reasons the most important being safety. Students that do not sign in may be unaccounted for in an evacuation or lockdown. To ensure that the roll accurately reflects their attendance at school, they must sign in with the Admin Assistant in the yellow building. We would really appreciate a gentle reminder at home.

Year 12 and beyond

VTAC applications opened on Monday the 29/7. VTAC assists in facilitating access to tertiary education and further study. An assembly was held to inform students of what is required to complete these applications. All Year 12 students have been encouraged to book an appointment with either Jennelle or Kate. It is important that all students attend these appointments to assist with their plans for 2025 and beyond. These bookings can be made via Compass.

Recent events

On Monday 22nd July we were lucky enough to have guest speaker Paul Watkins to speak to all our year 12 students about motivation, discipline and regret. Paul Watkins, a seasoned adventurer and business builder, inspired our students to ‘have a go, choose their regret’. Paul shared over two decades of experience in developing the skill of discipline and doing hard things. From academic achievements to hands-on challenges, Paul has left his mark from Antarctica to the Arctic, building businesses, climbing iconic mountains, and excelling in some of the toughest races on the planet. The feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive with many sharing their thoughts that they found Paul to be inspiring, motivational and amazing.

Road to Zero VCE VM PDS Excursion

On the 13th of August the VCE VM cohort attended an excursion to the Road to Zero education exhibit at the Melbourne Museum. This exhibit is about working towards reducing our death toll on our roads. This formed part of their curriculum for Personal Development Skills. Students took part in working in teams creating impactful safety videos highlighting different issues that create deaths and injury on our roads. Student engagement was high and some amazing videos created.

Uniform

Just a reminder, full school winter uniform is to be worn throughout Term 2 and 3. Please ensure your child has the correct school shoes (black polishable shoes) as well as the correct pants, shirt, and tie. Students should not be wearing acrylic nails. However, a necklace and bracelet can be worn for religious reasons.

Your support and understanding on this matter are much appreciated.

Quote of the week:

“It is not how you start the race or where you are during the race-it is how you cross the finish line that will matter.”
