Dear Parents,
I am excited about our upcoming Winter Sleepout hosted by the Mini Vinnies child that promises to be a profound and enriching experience for our students. This initiative aims to educate our children about the realities of homelessness and provide them with a meaningful opportunity to live out their faith in a tangible way.
During the Winter Sleepout, our students will spend time sleeping rough to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those who are homeless. This immersive experience is designed to foster empathy and a spirit of compassion.
A significant part of the evening will include sharing a basic meal consisting of items typically donated to those in need, such as noodle cups, poppers, biscuits and bread. By partaking in a simple meal, the children will better grasp the day-to-day struggles of many individuals and families within the community. This act of solidarity will help them appreciate the importance of charity and service.
Central to the event's spiritual focus, the children have chosen to reflect on the Gospel passage about the sheep and the goats (Matthew 25: 31-46). This scripture emphasizes the importance of caring for the least among us, highlighting that in serving others, we serve Christ Himself. The children will be leading prayers and reflections based on this passage, offering a moment of contemplation and insight into how we can all embody Christ's love through our actions.
This will be an invaluable opportunity for them to put their faith into action, making real-life connections between the teachings of Jesus and their own lives.
This experience will be instrumental in shaping the student's understanding of social justice and their role as followers of Christ.
God Bless,
